Designed by The Norwegian Ship Design Company for operation in the Arctic Circle’s challenging waters, these innovative vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2026, aiming to significantly reduce CO2 emissions by around 26,500 tons annually. Operating on green hydrogen for at least 85% of the time, the ferries will feature onboard hydrogen storage units to power their propulsion and auxiliary systems. This landmark project, supported by Lloyd’s Register and the Norwegian Maritime Authority, underscores Norway’s commitment to advancing clean hydrogen infrastructure within the maritime sector. These groundbreaking ferries, with biodiesel backup, represent a major stride toward zero-emission short-sea shipping, highlighting collaboration between industry leaders to achieve sustainability goals.
