Kenya has embarked on the second phase of the development of the nuclear programme, which involves a detailed scientific and engineering study of proposed sites in Kilifi and Kwale counties. Nuclear Power and Energy Agency Director of Technical Infrastructure Eric ohaga says the first nuclear reactor is likely to be commissioned in the year 2034.
