The UNSW Nuclear Innovation Centre has been launched to advance Australia’s nuclear science industry.
It is supported by a $7.5 million donation from the Sir William Tyree Foundation which will establish research scholarships in nuclear engineering.
It is the largest nuclear engineering program in Australia.
Defence Industry Minister Pat Conroy officially opened the centre and hailed it as a “critical” development.
It comes as experts have expressed concern over Australia’s ability to reach their net zero 2050 goals without having adequate nuclear energy sources.
