NWS: Two separate tornadoes in Selma and Winchester on March 14 [Video]

After further evaluation by staff at the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, the initial Selma-Winchester tornado on March 14 is now confirmed as two separate twisters.

The original survey mentioned one 25-mile-long tornado. It tracked through eastern Delaware County through Selma and continued into Randolph County through Winchester. NWS says the tornado temporarily lifted for a path of about six miles between Selma and Winchester.

Selma Tornado

The Selma tornado started NW of the small town northwest of Truitt Road. It then moved east southeast through Selma damaging homes, uprooting/snapping trees and knocking down power lines/utility poles. Read more about our coverage of the Selma damage here. More details are in the graphic below.

Winchester Tornado

After the tornado moved through Selma, it lifted in an open area between eastern Delaware County to near Farmland before redeveloping. It moved through rural Randolph County along State Route 32 snapping more utility poles and causing damage at a nearby wind turbine.
