Obscene materials bill passes Alabama House, heads to Senate for debate [Video]

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – The Alabama House of Representatives passed HB 385, also known as the Supplying Minors Bill, which makes it a crime to distribute obscene content to children in schools or public libraries.

”It just keeps it clean. It just keeps, you know, anything that’s not supposed to be in the minds of young kids,” explained state Rep. Reed Ingram, R-Dist. 75. “It’s a good bill.”

”It’s a bad bill,” says state Rep. Chris England, D-Dist. 70. “It’s a bad policy. It creates bad law.”

England, who voted against HB 385, argues the bill is nothing more than a solution searching for a problem.

”In search of just red meat, it satisfies a very small group of people,” says England. “Subjecting librarians and educators to criminal scrutiny just for general everyday decisions that are not criminal.”
