Omaha brothers run citizen sting operation on alleged auto fraudsters [Video]

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Instead of a handshake, a van sale meeting ends with a hand to the head of an undercover citizen trying to expose an alleged odometer rollback scheme.

“I knew that law enforcement didn’t really have anything to go on and I knew I was able to find them on Facebook Marketplace, so I guess I’ll take justice into my own hands and we’ll find them,” said Derek Altman.

Altman set up a citizen’s sting a few days after his brother, Brock, paid the same sellers $10,000 for a 2014 Honda Odyssey.

“It looks great, it’s clean and everything,” Brock said. “I thought it was a good deal. [It had] 134,000 miles, or so I thought.”

Not until after he bought the vehicle did Brock decide to get a Carfax report that showed the same van has been driven almost 206,000 miles.
