Petition to get a new animal shelter in Montville is gaining signatures [Video]

MONTVILLE, CT (WFSB) – Town leaders first thought this building would cost a few hundred thousand to fix up or replace.

Now, it’s looking like it will cost around two million.

Age has surely caught up with the building.

“It could make you cry,” said Ann Gaulin, the organizer of the petition to get Montville a new animal shelter.

It’s too small, there are structural issues, it’s difficult to clean, and it has failed state inspection multiple times.

“I am a kennel operator. If I failed inspection they would close my doors and I would have to fix the problem,” said Rebecca Maurice, owner of All Bright Canines.

She’s a certified dog trainer who teamed up with dog lover Gaulin.

They have quickly gotten 1,200 signatures for this petition.

“People would say, can you stay just a little longer? I need to go grab my husband and have him sign it too,” continued Gaulin.

They’re hoping the petition will speed up the build process.
