NORMAL, Ill. (WCIA) — One Central Illinois community college has opened a training academy to help students work on Electric Vehicles.
Governor J.B. Pritzker was at Heartland Community College Tuesday touring the new facility after a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The space will be a home to the state’s electric vehicle and energy storage technology programs. The college’s EV and ES technology program launched in 2021, and now has a permanent home.
“Programs such as Heartlands represent the best of Illinois commitment to investing in and educating the next generation of workers,” Pritzker said. “That`s why my administration pledged $15 million to open these centers and why my FY25 budget proposes another $24 million. Illinois must be ready for the jobs of the future.”
The space also includes spaces to support more programs for the college like robotics, HVAC, welding, and digital media.
