A floating solar power project located at Naihla village, near the Bhakra Dam in Punjab, sustained extensive damage on Friday night. The incident led to numerous solar panels being dislodged and carried away by the waters of the dam lake, eventually reaching as far as Nangal, eight kilometres from the project site.

The project, valued at Rs 92 crore and undertaken by the Satluj Hydropower Corporation, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 4. The damage was first noticed on Saturday morning by local residents, who observed solar panels floating around the lake. About 150 solar panels were found lodged near the Nangal Dam’s gates, with efforts underway to retrieve them. The total number of panels lost and the extent of the damage remain uncertain.
