Recognizing women in energy amid International Women’s Day [Video]

MIDLAND, Texas — On March 8, International Women’s Day commemorates the women in our lives and those who have pioneered change. 

For women, that often means entering a field long dominated by men.

According to data from the Department of Energy, women make up a quarter of the energy workforce, compared to 47% of the overall U.S. labor force.

Stephanie Alvarez is an operations advisor within the production services department for the multinational energy corporation, Chevron. Alvarez has been with the company for nearly 17 years after gaining experience through her internship.

“It opened my eyes to a whole new world,” Alvarez said. “A whole new industry of challenges and different opportunities.”
