The Rustenburg Local Municipality in the North West says it has resorted to providing water to some parts of the municipality through water tankering. This is due to water supply shortages caused by some challenges experienced by the water service boards Magalies and Rand Water.

The municipality says Rand Water’s Eikenhof pump station has been hit by power cuts after City Power in Gauteng experienced failures on the feeder board at its Eikenhof power station since Saturday. Magalies Water has also reportedly experienced a raw water pump failure at its Valkop Water Treatment Plant, leading to a reduced water supply.

The executive mayor of Rustenburg, Sheila Mabale-Huma, elaborates.
