WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) – The Total Solar Eclipse is just six days away, but how do you enjoy the event without damaging your eyes?

Eclipse or no eclipse, staring at the sun in general can lead to irreversible damage to the eye.

Doctor Sarah Solomons shared some tips on how families can protect their eyes during the eclipse.

The last time a Total Solar Eclipse passed through Texas was 1878, but with all the excitement came safely.

Dr. Sarah Solomons said without proper protection one can lead to serious damage.

“The Sun’s UV rays actually can cause damage to the retinal tissue in the back of the eye. It can almost hole through it if you look at the sun for a long enough period.” Boomtown Vision Optometrist, Dr. Sarah Solomon.

One sign of damage to look out for is a flash white, almost like from a camera.
