If you live in the Southcentral and haven’t ditched your snow tires yet, good news. You now have more time.

Folks living in Anchorage and other communities above the 60-degree north latitude line, you can now use your snow tires until May 15. The state granted this extension due to “prolonged winter weather.”

“Many parts of Alaska are experiencing prolonged winter weather after a near record-setting snow season that has extended icy road conditions well into April,” said Commissioner Jim Cockrell. “This 15-day extension for the studded tire removal deadline will provide additional time to switch to regular tires without compromising safety.”

The deadline however did not change for places south of that line like Juneau, Ketchikan, and Homer. That means as of April 15 studded tires are no longer allowed.
