State leaders eye workforce development plan to fill 20k jobs [Video]

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – The Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development is teaming up with the Alaska Safety Alliance, with the support of the Denali Commission, to craft a cross-industry workforce development plan.

“We’re hopeful that the plan can help build consensus,” the department’s Adam Weinert said.

The workforce plan will be created with feedback from industry leaders across the workforce who are selected to be a part of an advisory council. Weinert said that information will be used to develop pipelines that help recruit, educate, and train Alaskans.

“We wanted to develop a workforce that is able to meet the diverse needs that we have across the state,” Weinert said. “We’re hopeful that the plan can help reduce the out-migration of our talent by developing those talent pipelines so that our young people are able to meet the needs that that are here in the state.”
