DUBOIS COUNTY, Ind. (WEVV) — When you hear a storm siren, you know there’s trouble on the way, but who is in trouble?
Tammy Humbert, director of the Dubois County Emergency Management Agency, told 44News ”anyone that might be at a baseball game, or playing golf, or out at the swimming pool. They’re intended for those that are outside to hear the warnings.”
You can’t count on being woken up by storm sirens, hearing them over your cranked driving playlist, or hearing them in your living room. Sirens aren’t designed for that.
If you do hear the drone of a siren, a severe thunderstorm or tornado is imminent, and you could have only seconds to find shelter.
“When the sirens sound,” Humbert said, “we’re already under the warning, so that means there’s not a lot of time to take cover.”
