A key milestone has been hit in the building of a new offshore wind farm as nine blades were constructed in Hull and shipped off to Scotland to power more than 1 million homes.
The B108 blades – each longer than the MKM Stadium pitch and weighing 50 tons – were constructed at the Siemens Gamesa site. They will be transported north of the border to Scotland and will form part of the Moray West Offshore Wind Farm. The blades are the longest used for an offshore wind farm in the UK.
The Hull firm will make enough blades for 60 turbines for the Scottish farm, which will have the capacity to create enough power for 1.3 million homes.
