Status Coup’s Jordan Chariton reports from Wyoming County West Virginia on the poisoning of hundreds of residents’ water—they believe by local coal mines breaching the underground water aquifer thus contaminating their private water wells (local creeks which run into the Ohio River have also been contaminated). Residents have been receiving orange and brown looking water and, in some spots, water that appears to have living organisms growing within (and the water smells!) For over a year, residents—in one of the poorest counties in America—have been growing sick with nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and headaches. Some previously healthy residents have recently begun dying of unknown causes. Thus far, West Virginia Governor Jim Justice—who owns a coal mining empire—and Senators Joe Manchin and Shelley Moore Capito, have done nothing to help the people here.
