MOSCOW, Idaho — A team of University of Idaho (U of I) engineering students will launch weather balloons into the atmosphere Sunday and Monday, while the moon moves between the sun and the Earth to create an eclipse.

Weather balloons can gather data on atmospheric disturbances that happen during solar eclipses, including gravity waves that can transfer energy through the atmosphere. Scientists have been tracking changes to gravity waves for decades because of their influence on weather patterns and forecast accuracy.
