Use only humans, not AI, to deploy nukes: US to Russia, China [Video]

The US has urged Russia and China to not allow AI to make decisions on deploying nuclear weapons. Washington wants both countries to match declarations by the United States and others that only humans will have control over nukes.

“We certainly have made a very clear and strong commitment that in cases of nuclear employment, that decision would only be made by a human being,” said Paul Dean, principal deputy assistant secretary in the Bureau of Arms Control, Deterrence, and Stability.

“We would never defer a decision on nuclear employment to AI.  We strongly stand by that statement and we’ve made it publicly with our colleagues in the UK and France.”
