WASHINGTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Washington County, Tennessee Commission approved the rezoning of property to allow a solar farm to be built on Monday.

After originally being denied at a Sept. 2023 meeting, the Silicon Ranch rezoning request was approved unanimously by Washington County Commissioners at the Monday meeting.

Silicon Ranch requested the rezoning of 200 acres of farmland owned by the Hall family to A-3 (agriculture-business) from A-1 (general agriculture).

Silicon Ranch has a 30-year agreement with BrightRidge to sell power from the proposed farm, which would produce 12 megawatts (MW) of electricity, similar to agreements related to two existing farms.

Silicon Ranch Corporation operates two other solar farms in the county. One near Miller Road and the other at a Martin Road and Oak Hill site.

The resolution took effect Monday evening.
