The Platinum City, Rustenburg is one of the areas in the North West battling serious water provision challenges. It appears the two water service boards, Magalies and Rand Water are experiencing some challenges, hindering consistent provision of water. This has led to the city having to resort to water cuts, which affects residents and some mining companies and firms around Rustenburg. Residents say the water they get for few hours in the morning is still not safe for drinking, as it not clean. Besides the two boards servicing the areas, the municipality also has an entity called the Rustenburg Water Service Trust, which opposition parties have labelled as useless.
