LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — People can get a free pair of WDRB eclipse glasses at a coffee chain around Louisville starting in March ahead of a total solar eclipse.
The peak spectacle on April 8 will last up to 4 minutes, 28 seconds in the path of total darkness — twice as long as the total solar eclipse that dimmed U.S. skies in 2017.
The glasses will be available at all Scooters Coffee area locations starting March 1. One pair of eclipse glasses will be free with any purchase of a specialty drink or Scooot! Energy!, while additional eclipse glasses can be purchased for $2 each. The glasses feature WDRB Meteorologists Marc Weinberg and Jude Redfield.
Customers are limited to four additional purchases of glasses per visit. Net proceeds will go to the Kentucky Science Center.
The WDRB eclipse glasses comply with the International Standards Organization’s safety standards.
