GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – This week is National Drinking Water Week. State lawmakers and the Wisconsin DNR say protecting our drinking water has a ripple effect, and those leaders have a message for all of us: We need clean water to live happy, healthy lives.
Tuesday, state lawmakers are expected to meet to tackle the issue of PFAS, the “forever chemicals” that have been found in parts of our state, especially private wells.
The Department of Natural Resources is highlighting the importance of clean drinking water. This year we’re observing the 50th anniversary of the federal Safe Drinking Water Act. It established new regulations for over 90 contaminants to strengthen and protect our drinking water.
Here are steps you can take, according to the DNR:
If you’re on a private well, test your drinking water at least once a year. Encourage your neighbors to do the same.
