OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (KCTV) – One woman involved in a high-speed chase that killed one of her accomplices after a retail store theft has pleaded guilty to the crime.

Johnson County District Attorney Stephen Howe says that on Thursday, May 2, Shyanne B. Canady, 23, pleaded guilty in connection with a high-speed chase in Overland Park.

Court records indicated that Canady pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and aggravated battery. She had been charged with second-degree murder, felony theft, fleeing law enforcement, two counts of misdemeanor theft and three counts of aggravated battery.

On Nov. 27, 2023, the Overland Park Police Department said Canady and two accomplices were caught stealing at TJ Maxx in the 7900 block of W. 160th St. The three sped away from the scene in a getaway car and led police on a high-speed chase.
