LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Some people get sticker shock looking at their utility bills, but LG&E said saving money on those bills can actually be easy.

Here are some tips they suggest:

  • Only run ceiling fans when you’re in the room, because fans cool people, not rooms. Also, fans should be set to clockwise in the winter and counterclockwise in the summer.
  • Use cold water in your washing machine. LG&E said most of the energy we use while doing laundry comes from the hot water.
  • With your washing machine and dishwasher, always wait until you have a full load to run them.
