Applications open to receive funding for sewage system improvements [Video]

MONROE, La. (KNOE) – Applications are open for local municipalities to receive government funding for sewage system improvements through the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality’s (LDEQ) 2024 Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF).

The CWSRF, created in 1987 through Title VI of the EPA’s Clean Water Act of 1972, provides below-market interest loans to finance qualifying sewage projects to comply with the CWA to protect public health. Eligible projects include, but are not limited to, the construction, alterations or repair of publicly-owned treatment works. Implementing nonpoint source pollution control (stormwater runoff from highways and fields included) and estuary management programs are also eligible for funding.

Secretary Aurelia Giacometto said local municipalities should take advantage of the program.

“The State Clean Water Revolving Fund can be a key asset for municipalities to execute projects that improve their wastewater systems,” Giacometto said.

Around 20-30 wastewater projects are funded through CWSRF every year. …
