LAWRENCE, Kan. (KCTV) – A 44-year-old Lawrence man pleaded guilty Wednesday to aggravated battery against a 19-year-old woman.

The charges against Major C. Edwards Jr. stemmed from an incident on June 10, 2023. That day, early in the morning, Lawrence Police were called to an apartment in the 1400 block of W. 7th Street.

There, Edwards, while naked, had broken into a then 19-year-old woman’s bedroom and tackled her to the ground. Another woman in the apartment intervened and called police.

Edwards was on parole at the time of the incident for a 2006 voluntary manslaughter case in Douglas County.

“Our commitment remains unwavering to ensuring safety in our community and holding those accountable who commit violent offenses,” said Douglas County District Attorney Suzanne Valdez.

Edwards faces between 7 and 23 months in the Kansas Department of Corrections for the crime.
