Elon Musk Just REVEALED This Insane Rocket Engine!

SpaceX is planning to launch the IFT-4 mission as a follow-up to its third Starship flight, which marked another milestone with the world’s largest rocket. The fourth flight, which might take place as early as May, is anticipated to pair Ship 29 and Booster 11, the former of which is currently back at the launch site for its Static Fire test campaign. A concept that started as a doodle at a conference years ago is now becoming a reality. Advanced nuclear-based propulsion technology known as the FireStar Drive has been demonstrated by RocketStar Inc.

This is claimed to be the world’s first electric spacecraft propulsion technology powered by nuclear fusion. The business recently declared that this electric propulsion system had completed a successful initial demonstration.

“We are excited about the outcomes of our preliminary testing on a concept that our team has been investigating for a while,” stated Chris Craddock, the CEO of the US aerospace firm RocketStar.

In the upcoming years, it is anticipated that satellite deployment and space exploration will increase their need for nuclear fusion thrusters. This is because of the technique’s longer operation periods, higher efficiency, and other benefits.

How it works?

The “water-fueled pulsed plasma thruster” on RocketStar is made more effective by using nuclear fusion power through the FireStar Drive. A spacecraft’s thrusters are used for a variety of tasks, such as docking with other orbiting platforms and changing orbit. Not only that, but the device uses a special kind of aneutronic nuclear fusion, which is a fusion reaction that produces very few or no neutrons as a byproduct.

The news announcement stated that “the base thruster generates high-speed protons through the ionization of water vapor.” As a result, the fusion reaction is initiated when these protons collide with a boron atom’s nucleus. In order to produce high-energy particles that boost thrust, the FireStar Drive adds boron to the thruster exhaust, starting a fusion reaction.
As part of a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase 1 project for AFWERX, the team tested the effects of adding boronated water to the exhaust plume of a pulsed plasma rocket.

According to the announcement, “This created alpha particles and gamma rays, clear indications of nuclear fusion.” During the SBIR Phase 2 project at Georgia Tech’s High Power Electric Propulsion Laboratory (HPEPL) in Atlanta, Georgia, the discovery was further validated and confirmed.
In addition, the method generated ionizing radiation and resulted in a 50% boost in thrust from the base propulsion unit.

As per Adam Hecht, the University of New Mexico’s Professor of Nuclear Engineering, “RocketStar has not just incrementally improved a propulsion system, but has taken a leap forward by applying a novel concept, creating a fusion-fission reaction in the exhaust.”
