LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — It’s the perfect time to clean out your medicine cabinet.

The Lexington Police Department has partnered with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to take part in National Prescription Take Back Day.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 27, residents will have the opportunity to dispose of unwanted or expired medications for free, no questions asked.

The Lexington Police Department said the following will be accepted:

  • Prescription pills
  • Over-the-counter pills
  • Vitamins
  • Medicated lotions and ointments
  • Pet medication

“Cleaning out your medicine cabinet could help prevent theft, drug abuse, and potentially save a life,” the Lexington Police Department said.

Lexington police said that prescriptions can be dropped off at 2300 Richmond Road.

Authorities said that many pharmacies and hospitals offer permanent drop boxes where residents can dispose of prescription medication. For more information about Take Back Day and the disposal of prescription drugs, visit the DEA‘s website or click
