Renewables are ‘not the cheapest’ form of energy: David Littleproud

Nationals Leader David Littleproud says renewables are “not the cheapest” form of energy because a nuclear power plant will “last for 60 years”.

Opposition leader Peter Dutton is being criticised for delaying the release of his nuclear energy policy.

The latest Newspoll suggests voters are backing the Albanese government’s plans for renewable energy projects and sovereign manufacturing.

“We will make sure that there’s an honest conversation about what the energy mix is,” Mr Littleproud told Sky News Australia.

“Renewables are not the cheapest because a nuclear power plant will last for 60 years; wind towers, at best, would last 15 to 20.

“You’ll have three replacements of those over that period of time, and that’s before you even have to put in the 28,000 kilometres of transmission lines.

“This government is going to spend over $1.2 trillion of your taxpayer dollars to transition to an all-renewables approach, giving us concentration risk.”
