SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) — On May 6, The Midtown Carnegie Branch Library will close for approximately ten months for some much-needed improvements.

Eva Pelkey with the Midtown Carnegie Branch Library said these upgrades are mostly behind the scenes. They include getting new water supply lines and replacing the old boiler system with an energy-efficient HVAC system to make the library a more comfortable, regulated temperature.

She said perhaps the most noticeable change is the library will get a new entryway on the north side of the building off the parking lot. There’s a small elevator there now that many people have to rely on to get inside, but the elevator will be replaced with two enclosed and accessible ramps instead.

“It’s going to make us ADA accessible, so we won’t have to rely on that elevator. Everyone will be sharing the same entryway, so we won’t be dividing people up,” …
