On any given day, you’ll find Nikesha Breeze hard at work in their studio. But Breeze isn’t alone—they’re surrounded by piles of paint tubes, jars filled with paint brushes, other tools, and faces inside the Taos workspace.KOAT interviewed the interdisciplinary artist as they worked on a solo show, ‘Black Archive,’ a series of portraits inspired by Frederick Douglass and aiming to reframe narratives of how Black people were depicted throughout history.Coming Together: Project CommUNITYBut Breeze’s interest in this type of art started in 2016. “I began to study a ton around this history of African American people,” Breeze shared. “Trying to learn more about my own family’s journey.
